September, 2025: Sign Frames Installed for New Interpretative Signs.

New permanent interpretative signs frames are installed and cemented in place. The frames are made of railroad rails and heavy steel  backing that compliment the steel on the Headframe. Soon interpretative sign panels that tell story of the Plumer Mine Headframe and Mining Location will be installed on these frames.

2025: Temporary Interpretative Signs Installed at Plumer Mine Headframe

Temporary interpretative signs introducing the story of the Plumer Mine Headframe were installed in May. These signs will be replaced by larger permanent interpretative signs by fall, 2025.

2024 Plumer Mine Site Ruins Cleared

Did you know that there are foundations of the Plumer's former mining buildings behind the Headframe? We've just completed clearing years of brush away to reveal them.  A walking trail connecting the Plumer Mine Headframe parking lot to the ruins has been cleared. We are researching these mysterious structures and will be developing interpretative signs to share their history and function.

2023:  Site Rehab

The shaft opening beneath Plumer Mine Headframe was filled and landscaped. Safety fencing was installed.

2023:  Headframe Brushing

2023: Volunteers completed tree and brush removal beneath the Plume Mine Headframe. Brush clearing outside of the Headframe fence continues in 2024.

2023:  Friends Group Established with 501c3 Tax Exempt Status in 2024.

The Friends of the Plumer Mine Headframe was established as a 501c3 non-profit volunteer member organization. A new website and social media begins sharing Friends news.

Our goal is to establish the Plumer Mine Headframe Interpretive Park to preserve the history of the Penokee-Gogebic Iron Range through the stories and lessons this historic treasure can teach us.
